DEALING WITH IT

From time and again most people think that bullying is just for schools but just so you know bullying exists in the workplace too.  For me I think there is a thin line between harassing and bullying but from some info I have gathered harassment can fall under bullying.

When someone harasses you it does not necessarily take one form it can be physical, verbal or emotional. I can't say any form is better it definitely affects one in one way or another and definitely there are consequences. This morning I was watching Piers Morgan on CNN and he had a guest on his show. The guest was the mother of a teenager who committed suicide because she was being bullied in school. This is a very sad story especially for teenagers. I am saddened that this girl could not stand up for herself or have someone to talk to. Its a sad ending but it was definitely a lesson for me.

I have been bullied in primary school and I did not like it at least in my high school there was nothing like bullying. Since we are all past that the other place that bullying exists rather vividly is the workplace. this post will further discuss that.

At the workplace we do have all kinds of characters that you interact with bloated egos, sadists, macho people, bimbos, airheads, miss goody two shoes, gossips, sluts you name it. Some will want to get to you and you have to find a way of dealing with it. Sometimes you are being harassed you even do not know it  because they are from very unlikely sources. And sometimes you harass someone knowingly or unknowingly. So I have collected a list of some of the indicators to tell you if you are being bullied. The list is not exhaustive but hey, it is something you can start with.

  1. Belittling or critical comments
  2. Being yelled at in front of other colleagues
  3. Gossip
  4. Exclusion from office activities that you should take part in
  5. Making personal jokes about you
Workplace bully can make one do crazy things and even one can become sick so it is important to try and maintain some sanity. One can even quit a very promising career because of this. I is therefore important that we are all very considerate of our counterparts. Dealing with a bully is a great task but the most important thing to do is, do not let them know your weakness so save the emotions for later. Be very rational, be specific and have the details of the events on your fingertips.

Have good day and please DEAL with the bully. Well I just did.
