KEEP IN MIND

I have to admit I grew lazy after that looooong holiday but hey better something than nothing. Well the year is ending and I think there are some things we should have as a mantra when you make the new resolutions. If not the entire list at least one can pick one thing and follow it to the later. Change is not necessary an overhaul of something but it is a small step to a long journey.

This year has been great I shall not complain; not at all. I am praying to God that it ends well and that the new year should bring along great things for me and everyone I love.

Simple Resolutions
Give up complaining . . . Focus on gratitude.

Give up pessimism . . . Become an optimist.

Give up harsh judgments . . . Think kind thoughts.

Give up worry . . . Trust divine providence.
Give up discouragement . . . Be full of hope.

Give up bitterness . . . Turn to forgiveness.

Give up hatred . . . Return good for evil.

Give up negativism . . . Be positive.

Give up anger . . . Practice patience.

Give up pettiness . . . Put on maturity.

Give up gloom. . . Enjoy the beauty that is all around you.

Give up jealousy . . . Pray for trust.

Give up gossiping . . . Control your tongue.

Give up sin. . .  . Turn to virtue.

Meanwhile I came across this prayer somewhere and I think it would be wonderful to share it.

Dear Lord, I couldn't move into another year without apologizing for the things I should've said earlier and didn't, and acknowledge the times I could've done better but didn't.

Thanks for moving me while I grumbled about the changes you made. And thanks for the things you steered me past that could've tripped up my destiny. Thanks for the mountains you sent to give me a place to exercise my fait
h. I'm sorry I was so worried about who left me that I failed to thank you for who you let stay and I didn't even thank you that I am still here.

You exposed me beyond my limitations, forced me to grow beyond my stagnation, and moved me from procrastination to a firm dedication to what is ahead!

In spite of the blistering cold around me, I am warmed by your presence, kept by your grace, empowered by your faith in me, and strengthened by your patience. I want to thank you that I have known love, tasted laughter and have not had to live life without a touch.

As the year closes, leaves change, temperatures plummet, birds migrate south and the freeze matriculates north, I too am now prepared. I have packed what I needed, discarded what restricted me, recycled what I could, and at last in the true spirit of Thanksgiving, I thank you God, I too, am finally ready to move on.

Have a great week ahead

MEDIOCRITY

Something called guilt is gnawing me slowly. Wow its been three days since I said anything here. I owe you guys so much trust me three posts is no mean feat. Well the weekend was long with different experiences but some are definitely etched in my mind that is for my memory only-you know a girl has got to giggle to herself sometime-while the other ones are definitely worth sharing.

So one fine Friday morning the girl decides to pay a visit to the GOK offices to get some license. My aim was to go early so that I can leave early I just thank God I was not rushing back to work. I spend 3 freaking hours queuing to get whatever I wanted. The people who were supposed to serve people were behaving like they are the kings. If you go for a job that needs you to have people skills please polish up on your game. Some of them behaved as if that was the last job on earth and they had a gun held to their heads to get them agree to it. I have never been so mad in a looong while.

The only way to get served at this place was to speak a certain dialect or to personally know whoever was serving you. Well I can understand the old man because probably he has worked there for ages and he is so accustomed to being rude and untoward but I pitied the young man (he seemed to be around my age or SLIGHTLY older) who had joined the bandwagon of stupidity. I know change begins with us and the young people are always up in arms against the old men and their way of doing things but it is definitely another thing if you go ahead and join them and  help carry along their mediocrity.

Looking at the whole situation I think we entertain this kind of nonsense. We are very greedy and mannerless and very selfish too. All wrapped up in one and you do have a disaster waiting to happen. We are not courteous enough to wait patiently for your turn and because you think you are special you will pay to be given better treatment. This is not right it is actually a bribe. Sometimes in the city there is a traffic snarl up looking closely it has something to do with people with inflated egos. So just take a deep breath and look at yourself and say you are the change you want to see and it must start with you.

BLAST FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE....

I felt I should share this. I have written it elsewhere but I feel this is the perfect forum to share it too.

You need to get away from bad relationships, those ones that leave you worse than what you were, those ones that break your spirit and your soul.

You need to lose those people who are with you for reasons other than who you are.

You need to get away from people who use you take up your ideas make them theirs and drop you like a hot cake.

You need to run away from those people who take advantage of your personality and use it against you to manipulate you.

Because in the end your soul and spirit - the irreplaceble parts will be broken and you will be left there never able to find yourself again,to never redeem yourself,to never heal never to be yourself again or to even be able to enjoy the sunshine on your face again.

Enjoy your weekend good people and am looking forward to a loooong weekend and drama too. Good drama though.

PERSISTANCE

Yesterday going home was pretty interesting not so eventful but it was remarkable got me thinking. Well I left the office with a friend and we rushed to catch a bus. From a distance of like 200m I spotted a bus that many desire to board and that was the beginning of a 1km jog in the bid to get on to that particular bus. Every time we got close to the bus it would keep moving. One thing that amazed me was we kept going for that particular bus and yet we had the option of waiting at the stage for another bus. Now putting this in real life perspective, I really wish we could do so much for our dreams and our goals.

We often decide not to go for our dreams or achieve our goals because we do not make any effort to believe in them and follow them through. We get easily distracted by what goes on around us that we forget to strive and go for it. We forget what we want to achieve or the fruits (usually sweet) that await you and we choose to shift goalposts and go for something less straining or easier. There were many buses but with mediocre services but we choose to go for that particular one that has courteous crew on board. It meant a lot at the end of it all. The journey was smooth, a courteous conductor, enough seat and leg room space in the bus the little things that made that jog worthwhile. These are some of the things, the comfort that we will enjoy if we keep being persistent at what we want to go for. If you want that car, further that education, want that house keep going for it like my friend likes to put it and I can say albeit painstakingly that persistence does beat resistance.

Come to think of it maybe just maybe its true. Am sure you all know of a hawker who made you buy something just so you get rid of him thats after trying to get him off you back since forever. Same applies to that guy you don't like but he managed to make you go out on a date with. Don't give up PERSIST.

SHORT CHANGED

There is this place just near home where I get my movies from. I prefer series' to movies because I can watch series' longer as compared to movies. A good series has 8 to 10 episodes and a better deal is when it has 12 episodes. So you can imagine how terrible I felt when I started watching a certain series that had 6 episodes in it. SIX episodes! That is less half what I bargained for. I should have spent 25 shillings then instead. Am not really complaining about the cost but its the worth or value that I paid for. I got less than what I expected which is not a good thing. I did get short changed.

More often than not in life we do get short changed its not only in the things we can purchase but also relationships, careers among other things. Is it that we expect so much out of something then end up disappointed? Is it that we set very high standards that are too unrealistic to be met? I don't think so! What I know is some things package themselves in beautiful glittering wrapping paper but once you unwrap it all you find inside is utter garbage. Total rubbish. Take for instance movie trailers. They are a sneak preview of a movie that will be showing soon. To attract viewership all they need to show you is how great the movie is. Of course its business so they only show the good side. When you grab the movie is when you realize you have been duped. It is a lie and nothing that good exists and there you are having fell for it.

In life we have to be careful with what we pick or opt for. We always pick what we deem to be attractively packaged. Only to be disappointed. The old guys were not mistaken when they said all that glitters is not gold. Sometimes because its all wrapped up you can't tell. What works best though is to be open minded, that way you get less disappointments. I have come to learn that if you do not expect anything from someone you will be in for pleasant surprises. This however does not mean that we should not have any expectations just don't have them cast in stone.

VARIETY

Human beings get bored so fast before you even blink they are bored. I guess that was what had started happening to me. My exercises had gotten routine so much that now I barely wanted to do it. Will I decided to throw in some variety and raring to go. I am already looking forward to the next session. This thought brought about some sad realization that even in life in all we do if something gets too routine as a human one is bound to get bored.

I started asking myself if this is an excuse for someone to cheat on their spouse, to quit a job, to leave a town or country or its just an excuse. Most often in relationships I have heard people say they got bored. I mean is that reason enough to split with someone or someone was looking for an excuse to make the perfect exit? This excuse has also been used time again and again when leaving an employer or the country. Well I do think this is practical because no feelings are involved and nobody is getting hurt for wasting emotions or time well unless your employer is really clingy you know.

Anyway enough of that I just think variety is very necessary even to the most routine people. Variety does not necessarily mean breaking any rules but its just spicing things up a little bit to make things better for you. So today go out there do something differently the bottom line is make sure you enjoy because variety is the spice of life. :)

REALITY

I received a text from a friend sometime back and I have always wanted to share it and I thought this would be the best time. The year is coming to an end and we al had plans resolutions and all that for the new year. I can bet that half the time we make the resolutions most of them are not based on reality and I think if you do so that you can be like someone not because you want to be better, then you are wrong. So this year try and make realistic goals and resolutions so that you can check on yourself and not check yourself through someone else's eyes. I know its inevitable to compare yourself but give yourself a break count your blessings and be grateful of this far you have come.

So here goes the text

Someone will always be prettier.
Someone will always be smarter.
Some of their houses will be bigger.
Some will drive a better car.
Their children will do better at school,
and their husband will fix more things
around the house.
So let it go, and love you and your circumstances.
Think about it!
The prettiest woman on earth can have hell in her heart.
The most highly favored woman on your job maybe unable to have kids.
The richest woman you know; she's got the car, the house, the clothes- but might be lonely.
So, love who you are. Look in the mirror and smile and say "I am too blessed to be stressed"

So there you have the poem though short is quite weighty. Don't beat yourself up too much over somethings that usually are beyond your control. Work with you have and do make the most out of it. Just like our fingers the realities of life are like that. We are not the same and will never be the little finger will never be the index finger but there are things the little finger can do that the index cannot. Be glad with what you have because such people are the ones who enjoy life the most. Have a super week ahead.

KEEPING THE EYES ON THE BALL

I must admit it has been a tough week. For those who read this blog often you must have realized that this week i rarely mentioned about my workout regime. In all honestly this blog was supposed to help me stay focused on my health but I tend to digress which is a good thing and a bad thing. Through this blog I have been able to share my experiences, thoughts and ideas with you and it helped stay focused on what I want. For me HEALTH IS WEALTH hence it is important that I stay focused on my goal of gaining health.

So this week there has been so many distractions that interfered with everything else. I now have a better reason to believe that the ripple effects thing does work. I haven't been sleeping well this week reason being (teren teren) there is a series am watching and it is so addictive you just want to keep watching it. So my sleeping hours reduced to 6 from 7 and that had an effect on my waking up pattern so I felt lazy waking up and this made me feel lazy working out and soooo this lady here skipped working out for 2 days. I am not proud as I say this but I really feel terrible. Things have been going on fine but now am worried its like am taking 2 steps back and one step forward. I don't like how things have been going so I am very grateful now that the week has ended I can take the weekend and use it to evaluate myself and how things are going. I need to restructure and to do more planning and think positively. I need some refocusing and a push in the right direction to get going.

I must not forget to mention its the little things in life that matter not the big ones. Treat someone right and notice the effect. :)) Great weekend ahead.

DEALING WITH IT

From time and again most people think that bullying is just for schools but just so you know bullying exists in the workplace too.  For me I think there is a thin line between harassing and bullying but from some info I have gathered harassment can fall under bullying.

When someone harasses you it does not necessarily take one form it can be physical, verbal or emotional. I can't say any form is better it definitely affects one in one way or another and definitely there are consequences. This morning I was watching Piers Morgan on CNN and he had a guest on his show. The guest was the mother of a teenager who committed suicide because she was being bullied in school. This is a very sad story especially for teenagers. I am saddened that this girl could not stand up for herself or have someone to talk to. Its a sad ending but it was definitely a lesson for me.

I have been bullied in primary school and I did not like it at least in my high school there was nothing like bullying. Since we are all past that the other place that bullying exists rather vividly is the workplace. this post will further discuss that.

At the workplace we do have all kinds of characters that you interact with bloated egos, sadists, macho people, bimbos, airheads, miss goody two shoes, gossips, sluts you name it. Some will want to get to you and you have to find a way of dealing with it. Sometimes you are being harassed you even do not know it  because they are from very unlikely sources. And sometimes you harass someone knowingly or unknowingly. So I have collected a list of some of the indicators to tell you if you are being bullied. The list is not exhaustive but hey, it is something you can start with.

  1. Belittling or critical comments
  2. Being yelled at in front of other colleagues
  3. Gossip
  4. Exclusion from office activities that you should take part in
  5. Making personal jokes about you
Workplace bully can make one do crazy things and even one can become sick so it is important to try and maintain some sanity. One can even quit a very promising career because of this. I is therefore important that we are all very considerate of our counterparts. Dealing with a bully is a great task but the most important thing to do is, do not let them know your weakness so save the emotions for later. Be very rational, be specific and have the details of the events on your fingertips.

Have good day and please DEAL with the bully. Well I just did.
